Welcome to todays diary entry! The Big Shop Transformation Begins
Today was one of those days that you look forward to and dread in equal measure — the start of the big shop change-around. We’ve been planning this for weeks, talking about it for months, and imagining the final result for what feels like forever. But no matter how much you plan or prepare, nothing quite hits you like the reality of it when you finally get started. And wow… what a job it is going to be.
The first thing that struck me this morning was just how much stuff we actually have. You think you know — you see it every day, after all — but you don’t truly realise the scale of it until you start trying to move it all. Every shelf, every display, every nook and cranny seems to be hiding more stock than you ever expected. It’s like the shop doubles in size the second you try to empty it. And once you start pulling everything out, it quickly becomes apparent just how big a task this is going to be.

The change-around is essentially happening in two main phases. The first part is focused on the awnings and floor coverings — moving displays, creating new layouts, and making space for the updated ranges and a more streamlined customer experience. The second part is the carpet and flooring section, which is a big job in itself and requires everything to be cleared out before the new displays and systems can go in. But before either of those things can happen, we’ve got a load of external work to tackle — and that’s where today’s focus really was.
We’ve started installing a brand-new awning rail system that runs all the way around the shop walls, which will completely change the way we display products. It’s going to make the space look cleaner, more modern, and far more functional, but it’s a fiddly job and it needs to be done perfectly. Alongside that, we’re getting new banners and signage fitted, as well as fresh backing walls to give everything a sharper, more professional look. These might sound like small changes on their own, but together they’re going to completely transform the feel of the shop — not just for customers but for us too.

Of course, as with everything we do, there’s no such thing as a simple day. The phones didn’t stop ringing, the live chats kept coming, and we still had orders to process and customers to help — all while trying to manage what is effectively a complete overhaul of the store. It’s like trying to renovate your house while you’re still living in it and hosting a dinner party at the same time. But that’s the reality of retail: the world doesn’t stop just because you’re busy behind the scenes.
Despite the chaos, there’s a real buzz about the place. Everyone’s pulling together, boxes are flying out of the showroom, tools are clattering around, and you can feel the sense of excitement building as the vision starts to take shape. It’s exhausting, stressful, and slightly overwhelming — but it’s also really satisfying. This is the start of something fresh, something better, something we’ve been working towards for a long time.
By the time we locked up this evening, the shop looked like a bomb had gone off — but in the best possible way. It’s messy and chaotic, but it’s progress. And while there’s still a mountain to climb before the transformation is complete, today felt like a huge step forward.
It’s going to be a long, hard week — there’s no denying that — but when I think about how amazing the shop is going to look when it’s all done, I know it’s worth every ounce of effort. Today was the start of a new chapter for the business, and I’m genuinely excited to see how the next few days unfold.
