Welcome to todays diary entry! Controlled Chaos and Quiet Excitement. Today was one of those classic “deep breath and get stuck in” kind of days — the sort that reminds me exactly why this time of year is so demanding but also why it’s so rewarding. After the complete reset I gave myself yesterday, I woke up this morning feeling more refreshed and focused than I have in weeks. And I needed to, because today wasn’t just busy… it was relentless.
The shop refit preparations have now reached the point where they’re no longer a plan on paper — they’re a living, breathing, slightly chaotic reality. Everywhere you looked today there were boxes being moved, displays being dismantled, stock being shuffled into temporary holding areas, and endless conversations about layout, signage, lighting, shelving, and floor space.
It’s like a giant game of Tetris, except instead of coloured blocks you’re dealing with hundreds of awnings, accessories, and product lines — and instead of a neat little “click” when everything falls into place, you’re constantly second-guessing if there’s a better way to do it.

I spent much of the morning working through logistics: confirming delivery dates with suppliers, double-checking that our new display units are on track to arrive, and trying to coordinate timelines with installers and electricians. It’s a huge operation, and while I thrive on this level of organisation, it does push me to my limit. One small delay can throw the whole schedule off, so I’m trying to think two or three steps ahead all the time — anticipating problems before they become problems.
By the afternoon, I swapped the phone and laptop for a pair of gloves and got stuck into the physical side of things. There’s something strangely satisfying about physically clearing out the old to make way for the new — even if it does leave you covered in dust and aching by the end of the day.
Watching the shop slowly transform, even at this early stage, gave me a real buzz. This refit isn’t just about making things look nicer — it’s about making the space smarter, easier to shop, and more aligned with how people actually browse and buy. We’ve learned so much about customer behaviour over the last couple of years, and all of that knowledge is being poured into this project.

In the background, the motorhome preparations are also moving along — which, if I’m honest, is almost as big a job as the shop refit itself. It’s booked in for air con repairs and that elusive power steering fix, plus some electrical upgrades and new tyres. Getting those jobs ticked off the list will be a huge weight off my shoulders, especially now that we’re officially into the final stretch before heading south. It’s mad to think that at the start of the month, we still had 2,500 miles to drive before reaching Morocco, and now we’re more than halfway there. Every mile from here on out takes us closer to that warm Atlantic breeze and the golden sands of Taghazout.
Even though today was exhausting — the kind of day where your feet hurt, your back aches, and your brain is still whirring long after you’ve left work — there was a real underlying sense of excitement too. It’s like all the hard work, stress, and sacrifice of the past few months are slowly building towards something. The refit, the NEC, the last few weeks of the season… all of it is part of a bigger picture that ends with us rolling south, chasing the sun and a slower pace of life.
I found myself smiling despite the tiredness. There’s still a long road ahead — both literally and figuratively — but for the first time in a long time, everything feels like it’s moving in the right direction. And after the rollercoaster of the past few weeks, that’s a pretty great feeling to have.
